At Oso High Endurance Sports we are committed to supporting patient service and research funding activities of The ALS Association. ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or "Lou Gehrig's Disease") is the most common, always fatal disease in the U.S. The only treatment approved by FDA is a drug believed to extend the life of an average ALS patient by . . . drum roll please  . . . two months!  That bites, but, while training for and participating in your favorite sporting events, you can help Bite Back at ALS!

Through this website, you can:

  1. Publish info about you, an event you are participating in, and set up an easy way for people to “sponsor” your participation in an event;
  2. Donate to The ALS Association (click to DONATE NOW!); or
  3. Read about the daily adventures and challenges of an endurance sports enthusiast living with ALS.  Click here to see the blog series that began with "166 Days to Leadville".

Oso High does not take donations; rather, we raise money and help others raise money for the organization that is already doing the most to fight ALS.  Here's how you can use this site to raise funds.  Tell us about you and your goal event, and send us a photo.  Any event (e.g. bike tours or races, running, walking, triathlon, hiking, climbing, swimming, hot dog eating, or just getting yourself fit).  We'll post your story and your photo on a page set up for your event.  ALSA will provide us with a link specific to your fundraising effort so they can track what you raise. Send your story and your link to friends, family, colleagues or anyone who may want to help.  As you train, or after your event, send us your updates or event report and we'll publish that, too!

Earn swag!

  • Raise at least $50, and we'll send you a "Bite Back at ALS" bracelet.
  • Raise at least $250, and we'll send you an Oso High Endurance Sports t-shirt.
  • Raise at least $600, and we'll send you an Oso High Endurance Sports cycling jersey or a dye-sub tech Oso High training t-shirt, your choice!

Doug Schneebeck, is a husband, father, son, brother, lawyer, bike racer and skier.  He was diagnosed with ALS in 2010, two days after his 50th birthday, and three weeks before the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race.  Doug is pictured at left (being chased by his kids) at the '10 Leadville finish.  His progressing ALS has led to bike and equipment modifications that made training for Leadville 2011 even more of an uphill ride.

In 2012, Doug transitioned to racing tricycles and took up the challenge to become the first member of the United States Paralympic Cycling Team with ALS.

Our signature event, Angel Fire's Oso High Mountain Bike Race, is a USACycling-sanctioned mountain bike race for riders of all ability levels and ages. Thanks to the generous expense support of our friends in the legal community, all proceeds from this event go right to ALSA!  Look for the 3rd Annual Oso High Mountain Bike Race in Angel Fire, June 8-9, 2013!
